Deputy Registrar, Essex County
Essex County is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Deputy Registrar
Status – Full Time (+benefits)
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience $30,000-$44,000

Essex County Voter Registration and Elections is actively recruiting a Deputy Registrar to join the elections team. This position provides professional, administrative, and technical assistance to the Director of Elections and all activities related to the efficient and accurate conduct of election administration and voter registration. Applicants must be registered voters in the Commonwealth of Virginia and possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License. The position requires the ability to perform work within a team, to maintain confidential information, multitask, carry out assigned projects to completion, to be non-partisan, and work additional hours including weekends during election cycles.

Essential functions include performing the duties of the Director of Elections as needed; processing voter registration applications; processing and certifying candidate forms, petitions and campaign finance reports; conducting all phases of absentee voting; training of Officers of Election; preparing materials required for Election Day activity (including packing precinct election supplies and boxes; and assisting with programming and testing of voting equipment and electronic poll books); and communicating with the public, media, government officials, elected officials, candidates, and political party representatives.

The successful candidate will have an associate degree or any combination of education, training and experience providing the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.  Experience in election management and election laws preferred.

Chief of Emergency Services

Essex County Virginia is seeking a full time highly motivated individual responsible for the overall administration and operation of Essex County Emergency Services. The Chief reports to the County Administrator. This is a full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is primarily administrative and executive in nature.

Essex County is located in Virginia’s Middle Peninsula and is full of pastoral charm. It is an idyllic location to settle down in a relaxing rural environment, but with easy access to the vibrant cities of Richmond, Williamsburg, and Fredericksburg all of which are located within a scenic one-hour drive. Essex County, located adjacent to the Rappahannock River, boasts a plethora of activities centered on the water. Job Title: Animal Control Officer
Status: Full Time with Benefits


Essex County is seeking an individual to perform responsible work as an Animal Control Officer. This work includes, but is not limited to, responding to complaints, enforcing animal control ordinances, statutes, and laws, issuing summons and ensuring public safety. The incumbent will be required to appear in court in support of summons issued. Duties will also include containing/retrieving sick, injured, stray, feral or unwanted animals and transporting them to the appropriate destination. Certification as an Animal Control Officer is required within 24 months of hire. This position is a member of the Animal Shelter team and performs responsible work in caring for animals housed at the animal shelter, maintaining a safe and sanitary facility for animals and people in accordance with all applicable statutes, ordinances and regulations, and coordinating the animal adoption process. This position performs work under the direction of the Animal Shelter Manager. This position requires variable work hours on weekends and holidays, and is on-call several days per week.

Job Title: Custodian

Category: Full-Time or Part-Time/Non Exempt (20 hours per week, varying shifts)

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

This position performs semi-skilled work to inspect, clean and maintain public buildings, entrances and under his/her care so as to keep them safe, clean, sanitary, neat in appearance and comfortable for use by occupants and visitors and to prepare rooms and facilities for use. A custodian is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs routine custodial duties and tasks such as vacuuming rugs, dusting and wet mopping floors and cleaning glass, windows and mirrors; empties trash and recycling containers; fills soap and other dispensers; inspects, sanitizes and cleans restrooms daily

Performs routine maintenance work such as: observes and reports problems to supervisor of unsafe conditions, missing lights, broken windows or doors, etc.;

Plans custodial work so that within reasonable periods on a rotating basis all areas under his/her care receive a thorough cleaning; may perform periodic heavy cleaning as conditions require such as stripping and buffing floors, shampooing carpets, cleaning windows, etc.;

Moves furniture, equipment and supplies; sets up and breaks down meeting and function rooms for various activities as requested

Secures cleaning supplies, hazardous chemicals and custodial storage areas; secures and/or locks facilities or portions of facilities as appropriate; set alarm systems for security.

Ensures that all work is conducted in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed;

Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates;

Continues training; keeping current with policies and procedures and work standards;

Consistent on-site and on-time attendance is essential for

this position based on assigned schedule.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

Education and Experience:

High school diploma supplemented by one (1) year of experience with custodial services or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.

Job Title: Animal Care Technician
Category: Interim/Temporary Part Time (12 to 20 hours mainly weekends)
Pay Grade: 104
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


This position performs responsible work in maintaining a safe and sanitary facility for animals and people in accordance with all statutes, ordinances, and regulations pursuant to the operation of shelters and the sheltering of animals. This position shall be primarily responsible for the lawful, proper, and humane care of animals, and shall assure that all animals’ nutrition, sanitary housing and basic medical needs are met on a daily basis. This position shall assist the public when reclaiming, adopting or admitting animals and is responsible for promoting responsible pet ownership in conversations with customers. The proper performance of duties is essential to preserve the health of animals and to prevent the spread of disease within the shelter. This position receives direction from and reports to the Animal Shelter Manager.
