Public Health
The Essex County Health Department offers family planning services monthly by appointment, pregnancy testing and counseling, immunizations, TB screening & testing and WIC services.

Essex County Public Health Center The Environmental Health Division protects the citizens of Essex County with a wide range of services, including: inspection of all food establishments, hotels, motels, public swimming pools and campgrounds; investigation of animal bites and childhood lead poisoning; processing of permit applications for onsite water supply and sewage disposal systems; investigation of complaints involving restaurants, hotels, swimming pools and septic systems. State fees are charged for food, well, and septic permits.

Essex Adult Day Break/Bay Aging is a community-based program designed to meet the needs of adults. We offer a structured program that provides a variety of social, health and support services. Our goal is to maximize a person’s independence and to enable an individual to continue to live in their home. We provide supervision for part of the day thus providing respite for family or caregiver.

Bay Aging provides a care service from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Our center is for adults who are in need of medical/ physical supervision and we have on staff a full time Registered Nurse and Certified Nursing Assistant. Located behind Carson's Flooring and across from Wal-Mart in Tappahannock.

Farnham Manor is an assisted living facility, licensed for 2 levels of care; regular assisted living and intensive assisted living. Our Direct Care staff provides 24 hour assistance with the Activities of Daily Living. A Registered Dietitian and an Activity Director make sure that good food and good times are plentiful.
