Ribbon-Cutting at Occupacia Creek

Route 637 bridge over Occupacia Creek Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The new Occupacia Creek Bridge at Hunters Millpond is sure to stand the test of time serving Essex county residents. Originally a single span wooden crossing, the Occupacia Creek Bridge is now a two-lane concrete structure. The $2.2 million task, built by Abernathy Construction, also included upgrades make the bridge easily accessible to Route 637 and U.S. Route 17. The bridge was opened to traffic on May 15, and was completed May 21, 2007.

Occupacia Creek, a favorite of kayakers, has also been a subject of avid study by the EPA and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. The new bridge should also make the creek more available to study and enjoy for all.
